| Terminal Groins for NC Coast - Thursday, May 14, 2009 at 10:59 |
| North Carolina Senate Bill 832 is the most serious piece of legislation affecting our N.C. coastline since the Basnight bill that prohibited "hard structures" on the beach years ago. SB 832 will negate that, and with state Senate leader Marc Basnight's blessings. Why? The bill, which allows for "terminal groins" on any section of beach, has passed the Senate and sits in a House committee where, the chances of passage are, at any moment, good. Proponents have kept a low profile on this, hoping to keep it out of the public eye. Soon, North Carolina could be like the New Jersey shoreline. All North Carolina residents deserve to know about these behind the scene happenings -- and react appropriately and quickly.
